Wild Yeast Starter with Dehydrated 'Ulu / Breadfruit
Our healthy lifeways series highlighting better-for-you pantry staples is featuring wild yeast starters this month! The abundance of fruit wasted on the trees or the ground can be saved and used for so many healthy products. These next few months we are talking about bread making!
Hawaii grows fruit and vegetables all year! As fortunate as we are, we also waste too much food. Some of the fruits wasted in Hawaii are mango and breadfruit so I decided to use them for my wild yeast starter.
You can try other fruits such as raisins, veggies or grains to make your own wild yeast specific to your "culture".
I added the step-by-step into our new learning platform. Hope you can see how simple it is to capture wild yeast and use it as a starter for bread!
